Small Animal & Veterinary Surgery in Lilydale

At Yarra Ranges Animal Hospital, we provide a comprehensive range of surgical services for dogs and cats, from routine procedures such as desexing and lump removals through to advanced soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery.

Our main hospital in Lilydale is equipped with dedicated surgical facilities, advanced anaesthetic monitoring and experienced veterinary and nursing teams to provide a high standard of care before, during and after your pet’s procedure.

Advanced Veterinary Surgery

Our principal surgeon, Dr Ben Fell, holds Membership of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists (ANZCVS) by examination in Small Animal Surgery and has extensive experience performing both soft tissue and orthopaedic procedures.

This allows many complex surgical cases to be treated here at Yarra Ranges Animal Hospital, including cases referred to us by other veterinary clinics.

Orthopaedic Surgery

We perform a range of orthopaedic procedures for dogs and cats, including:

Cruciate ligament disease is one of the most common causes of hindlimb lameness in dogs. We offer Tibial Plateau Levelling Osteotomy (TPLO) surgery for suitable patients, along with diagnosis, pre-operative imaging and post-operative care.

Soft Tissue Surgery

Our veterinary surgeons also perform a broad range of soft tissue procedures, including:

  • Desexing
  • Lump and tumour removal
  • Reconstructive skin surgery
  • Abdominal and gastrointestinal surgery
  • Intestinal foreign body removal
  • Bladder stone surgery
  • Brachycephalic airway surgery
  • Other complex soft tissue procedures

If your pet requires a procedure that is better managed by a specialist referral hospital, our veterinarians can discuss the available options with you and arrange referral where appropriate.

Anaesthesia & Patient Monitoring

We understand that having your pet undergo an anaesthetic can be worrying. Every surgical patient receives an individual anaesthetic plan based on their age, health and procedure.

During anaesthesia, a dedicated veterinary nurse continuously monitors your pet, supported by equipment measuring parameters including heart rate, oxygen saturation, blood pressure, carbon dioxide, body temperature and ECG.

Pain relief is an important part of our surgical care, with appropriate pain management provided before, during and after surgery.

Surgical Care at Yarra Ranges Animal Hospital

From routine procedures through to advanced orthopaedic and soft tissue surgery, our aim is to provide high-quality surgical care while keeping you informed throughout your pet’s treatment.

Our surgical services are provided from both our Lilydale Animal Hospital and Yarra Glen Clinic, caring for pets from throughout the Yarra Ranges and Yarra Valley.

If your pet has been diagnosed with a condition requiring surgery, or you would like to discuss surgical treatment options, contact our team or book a consultation with one of our veterinarians.
