Sue McKenzie – Receptionist/Office Duties

MainPic

I started working for this practice in April, 1988.  Although, I initally trained as a Veterinary Nurse, I am now responsible for the Reception, scheduling appointments both within the hospital and farm visits, as well as various clerical jobs, including generating all the reminders and statements.  I share my time between the Lilydale and Yarra Glen practices. I am married to Alan and have three wonderful adult children, three gorgeous children-in-law and one very special grand-daughter, Ella.  Alan and I live with our two cats, Bobby and Q.E.  My interest include crafts, walking, reading and spending precious time with our wonderful family.

I started working in the veterinary profession in 1975 at Auckland Veterinary Services in N.Z. where I worked for 13 years before spreading my wings, (again). After spending 12 months in the U.S.A. in California and Hawaii, I returned down under and started working at Yarra Ranges Animal Hospital in 1990 as a Veterinary Nurse and now Practice Manager.

After owning, breeding and showing Basset Hounds, British Bulldogs, Dobermans, and judging Hounds, I now have a Miniature Poodle named Josephine. My other interests are my garden, which includes too many bonsai and a big vegetable plot, and is where I love to spend most of my spare time. I also enjoy cheese-making, which is so much fun, especially the end product. I love to travel and over past few years have managed big trips to India, Switzerland, Italy, France and New Zealand, with a few more on the drawing board.

I have to thank Josephine for her companionship and joy and insisting on her morning walk rain, hail or shine, as I can assure you nothing else would get me at the park in the cold winter mornings.

I was originally employed in 1980 as a Technician at the Yarra Glen clinic, four name changes later, (one by me and three by the practice), I am still here.   I still work with frozen semen and liquid nitrogen, but mainly work at our Lilydale Hospital, doing surgical nursing.

I am married with two grown up girls and have a black Labrador named Bailey.  My interests include netball, water skiing, walking, reading and the Essendon Bombers.

I started working at Yarra Ranges Animal Hospital in 2006, when I did my Year 10 work experience.  Since then I was offered employment on Saturdays which I happily accepted.  In 2007 I completed Certificate III in Companion Animal Services and completed Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing in 2009.

I am now starting my Diploma of Veterinary Nursing (Surgical). I am an outdoors person and love all animals.  I have a pony Micki, two dogs, Duke a German Shepherd and Mr. Whippy a Whippet, and two cats, Hayley and Ginger.
